Welcome to the home of

The Alfa 2000/2600 Register

The site is organized with the history of this publication first, the legend for the register second, (both on this page) and links at the end of this page to the rest of the register pages. The email, for updating the information on cars already registered or registering a vehicle, is not currently active, but will be soon.

The History of the 2000/2600 Register

Originally the 2000/2600 Register was started by Harris and Nuxoll. It developed into an informal newsletter along with register information. George Meikrantz took it over in the mid 1970s. The format continued to expand into a technical newsletter. In the late 1970s George handed over the reins to Rizzo and Sanor. The newsletter was upgraded in look by typesetting and a two color cover. Things seemed to be going fine. For some reason they quit publishing. After a couple years, Dale & I began the "Unofficial 2000/2600 Newsletter" in 1983/4. It was technically oriented, eight pages, three and sometimes four issues a year. Eventually, Sanor and Rizzo gave up the Register and we became the 2000/2600 Owners Association. We continued to produce newsletters at the rate of two or three a year. We also produced two registers. Then life changed. On two separate occasions we enlisted outside help in an attempt to get the Newletter running again. Part of the deal was that the Newsletter was expanded to cover other old Alfas. Great concept, too bad it didn't work. One newsletter was produced under the name "Alfa Corsa" and one was produced as "The Portello Works". Both of these efforts failed due to the fact that we were extremely busy with business & life and once again article contributions were minimal.

Now we have the internet age and we have this local site that cannot handle our business needs so it has been sitting idle. Great place for the 2000/2600 Register! I am not an internet whiz and have little time to devote to self teaching so, no fancy stuff here. There will be email so that people may register their old cast-iron block 2000s and 2600s by serial number and then the lists will be updated periodically. The other function of the register was to keep owners of these particular Alfas in touch with each other. Publishing on the world-wide web will make this public information and I have NO plans to publish personal information. I would like to find a way for owners to communicate with each other through the site that would protect their privacy and not create a lot of work for me. I know it can be done, but I don't know the mechanics of setting it up. So, if someone out there can give step by step instructions for setting up a chat room or some other mechanism that doesn't require a lot of server space or editing on my part, it would be appreciated. The system I am using is a Power Macintosh 6500/225 and I am using Adobe PageMill to create the web pages. This register was last printed on paper and mailed out in 1995. That data is what is displayed on this site with hopes that owners will email or mail in updates as they find their car listed under a previous owner on this site.

LEGEND

At the beginning of each year of production is listed the year and the Alfa Romeo factory identification number, first and last for that year. The number identifies the car by year, series, model (where model is Berlina = 4 door Sedan, Spider = 2 door Convertible, Sprint = 2 door Coupe, and the two special bodied 2600s; Zagato = 2600 coupe with body by Zagato and OSI = 4 door) and unit number or serial number. The code is as follows:

KEY

 102 = THE 2000 SERIES   106 = THE 2600 SERIES
10200. = The 2000 Series, The Berlina Model
10204. = The 2000 Series, The Spider Model
10205. = The 2000 Series, The Sprint Model
10600. = The 2600 Series, The Berlina Model
10601. = The 2600 Series, The Spider Model
10602. = The 2600 Series, The Sprint Model
10612. = The 2600 Series, The Zagato Model
10616. = The 2600 Series, The OSI Model

In addition to these distinctions by Series and Model, Alfa Romeo also differentiated "Right Hand Drive" and "Completely Knocked Down" in the numbering system, although not as logically. The 2600 Berlina has 10607., the 07 designating "Completely Knocked Down" and the beginning of the serial number starts with .85____ designating "Right Hand Drive" instead of .80____.

The 2600 Spider "Right Hand Drive" models have serial numbers reading 10608.85_____. The 2600 Sprint "Right Hand Drive" models are numbered 10609.85____.

The first column, "SERIAL NO.", lists the serial numbers chronologically. The second column lists the name of the "OWNER". Under the column marked "CONTACT" a last Date of Contact is provided. This is to provide you with an idea of how old the data is. Where no contact is listed, no personal contact has been established. The serial number and name has been provided by another club or one of our members. In the column marked "CONDITION" is a letter and number. The letter designates whether the car is O - ORIGINAL, R - RESTORED, or P - PARTS. The number is derived by subjective owner evaluation on a 20 point scale: five points in each of these categories: "B  I  C  M" = BODY -  INTERIOR  -  CHROME  -  MECHANICALS. The higher the number the better the condition. Where there is no specific information under "B  I  C  M", none was provided.
